FUEL VALUE CREATING VALUE FOR OUR CUSTOMERS


The process of choosing a fuel for electrical power generation is a complex task, influenced by factors like fuel price and availability. Gas turbines—which play a key role in global power generation—can operate on a wide variety of gaseous and liquid fuels. GE’s gas turbines offer broad fuel capability, creating value for our customers.


Comparative Fuel Analysis: Impact of Fuel Price


By using GE’s Fuels Value Calculator, we performed a comparative analysis on fuel pricing and its impact on plant OpEx based on indicative delivery prices to the Caribbean in $/MMBTU.


The assessment assumes a 6B.03 (44MW 50 Hz) operating for 7,000 hours/year in a simple cycle 1x1 power plant configurations. In this case, a switch from Diesel Oil to US Liquefied Propane Gas (LPG) yields an estimated price delta of 1.8$/MMBTU, resulting in an estimated annual fuel savings of $6.3MM/year, or a 20 year NPV at 10% discount rate of $53.3MM.
